The Charente Maritime is everyting you could ever want in a holiday. Sandy beaches that go on for miles, with interesting coves and calm waveless family bathing spots to the fiercest surf for the sporty. A wonderful climate second only to the Cote d' Azur with up to twice as much sunshine as
the U.K and most months 20-30 % warmer. With an abundance of history Pons, Saintes and Rochefort are all within easy reach, or if you prefer La Rochelle and Royan with its many restaurants serving the finest food and wine. The vineyards famous for Cognac and Pineau are a sight to behold and the tasting is ever better. A tour of the many Cognac houses is a must. Saintes is a beautiful Roman town with wonderful architecture, narrow streets, intersesting shops and street cafes. It still has traces of it's

Gallo-Roman past such as the Roman Amphitheatre. You can take a boat trips down the Charente river which runs through the town where there are lovely parks, bars and cafès which run along it's banks. St Jean d'Angely has an excellent water park with 5 swimming pools, water slides etc. There is also canoeing, kayaking, pedaloes and fishing; Here you'll find lovely old buildings and cobbled streets, lots of quaint shops, bars, cafés and restaurants. There is a market on Wednesdayand Saturday mornings. Rochefort has good shopping and a

nice town square where you can sip a drink or two! La Rochelle an ancient walled port town with arcaded streets. Two towers overlook the old port. There is also a beach and an excellent Aquarium. This is the place for seafood, where masses of restaurants line the harbour, great place to have a meal and people watch. The natural history museum is also recommended. La Rochelle is a great place for boutique style shops. If you are there in July don't miss the international music festival. Modern Royan is one of the largest seaside resorts of France. You can

hire sailing boats at the marina and take a trip around the bay and browse it's many boutiques. Saint-Georges-de-didonne has a greatbeach with dunes and pine trees. There are three lovely islands off the Charente Maritime coast: IIe d' Aix (no cars so a great place for cycling or walking), IIe d'Oleron (accessed by a 2 mile long viaduct), IIe de Ré ( where the french celebs go for their holidays!)
There are 3 excellent golf courses, Royan Saintes and
Cognac all within a short drive. Your rounds of golf will be booked in advance and you will be given details and directions to the courses. Your stay will include breakfast.
